Ruth Evans, Independent ATVOD Chair
Ruth Evans is a non-executive director the National Audit Office, the Independent Police Complaints Commission and Founding Director of the Alacrity Entrepreunership Foundation.
Up until 2011 she was a Non-executive Director of PhonePay Plus, a member of the Association of British Insurer’s Customer Impact Panel and a Member of the Advisory Board of ING Direct UK. Up until 2009 she was the Chair of the Bar Standards Board, the Regulator for Barristers; was Deputy Chair of the Office for Communications Consumer Panel; a Lay Member of the General Medical Council and former Chair of its Standards and Ethics Committee; and a Member of the Queen’s Counsel Appointments Panel.
Ruth was Chief Executive of the National Consumer Council for seven years until 1998. Following that, among other things, she chaired two inquiries, including one into Drug Testing at Work during 2002-3, and another into paediatric cardiac services at Brompton and Harefield Hospitals from 1999 - 2001; she was also a member of the Human Genetics Commission and the Medicines Commission, a non-executive director of the Financial Ombudsman Service, a non-executive member of the Nationwide Building Society and, prior to that, a non-executive member of the Liverpool Victoria Group. She was also a Member of the Independent Review Panel on the Future Funding of the BBC.
Prior to that she was General Secretary of the charity War on Want, Deputy Director of Mind, the National Association for Mental Health and the first Director of the Maternity Alliance.
